COMMUNITY is built in many ways. Most would agree that when we are relaxed and away from the strain of everyday routine, we find that space in which friendship (often for life) is born. We experience a chance to grow at our own pace, to build our self confidence, and discover aspects of ourselves that help us to realise how unique each one of us is.

A chaplaincy group enjoying the sights of Paris.YOUR chaplaincy offers a great variety of social outlet from the Friday night movies, quiz-nights, International Evenings, Bonfire Night, The Christmas dinner and party, Games nights, Theatre nights, to name but a few. There are some great opportunities for travel from the chaplaincy, whether on the Weekends away in the Lakes, to the Saturday hikes, to the Easter trip (this year to Lindisfarne/Holy Island in the Northeast of England for five days), to the walking pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostella, to the WYD trip to Madrid in August 2011, to the day trips to cities such as York, Liverpool, Chester, or on the day pilgrimages to holy sights and shrines. Something for everyone!

We usually have two each year—during welcome week and at the end of the summer term.

Another opportunity for a good meal is the Chaplain’s Dinner — usually each Wednesday at 7.00 p.m. This is hosted by Fr. Ian and is always a full roast dinner (accompanied by a glass or two of wine or whatever) to which twelve students are invited. Father normally issues the invitations at Sunday Mass. Don’t worry—your turn will come. A most enjoyable and relaxed evening with plenty of banter and more serious conversation also. We have two International Evenings each year with food and displays from each country.
